There's No Place Like Home

Once again, no pictures, but we got our internet set up today and I am back! We all made it to California on Wednesday and straggled through a couple of half-sick moving in days and are now feeling much better. My sweet niece Angie helped me unpack the kitchen and sang Mary Poppins songs to the boys to keep them entertained. My brother-in-law John helped Josh put up all the beds and broke down a ton of boxes. We've been to the grocery store and Target and Josh went to work for a full day yesterday and we are ready to exhale.

If you remember, this house has no bath tub. Right now Josh is giving the boys their first bath in the Rubbermaid bin and it seems to be going well. Sam has learned how to climb out of his crib and has been taking hours to go to bed each night and skipping his naps. He freaks out whenever he can't see Josh and came running and screaming into our bedroom last night at about 3am. He has definitely had the hardest time with this move and I can't wait for him to feel comfortable here. Today when we walked downstairs for breakfast he said, "Sam's house. Michael's house. Daddy's house. Mommy's house." I think he's getting the fact that we won't be leaving here and I hope he'll settle down soon and sleep better.

Josh and I are both well now and feel like although this was a very hard move, we were blessed in so many ways to make it as comfortable as possible under the circumstances. I actually had sunshine the whole way I drove on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, which is usually dark and rainy. I had a woman at a rest stop help me keep the boys in the bathroom with me. I got sick at my parent's house and was able to spend the day in bed knowing the boys were happy and in excellent care. Josh got to a hotel in time before he got sick and missed a snow storm in Arizona while he was in the hotel.

There are so many ways we have been blessed. I cannot wait to go to church tomorrow. I feel starved for some spiritual strength. I am sad that it won't be at our old ward but am trying to remember that every ward I have ever loved was once new and unfamiliar. We just had such special experiences in Virginia that it makes it hard to say goodbye to those friends who went through those experiences with us, but we know that life keeeps going and we'll have those kinds of friends here too, eventually.

In the meantime, I am frequently bursting into tears while unpacking and realizing that I have so much space to put things. We can see the moon and stars out of our windows at night. My bedroom and bathroom feels like a bridal suite at the Ritz and the kitchen makes me feel like a cooking princess. I wish all of our friends in little dark apartments in Virigina could move somewhere more affordable and live more comfortably. It's very uplifting and I can tell Josh and the boys love it too.

So, ahh. Exhale. Deep breath and ready to go meet new friends at church tomorrow.

Pictures soon to come as soon as I find the cable to download them! Thanks for all of your encouraging comments. I love you all and the blogosphere!

Kristina!!! I am so glad you guys made it and are getting settled. Noah too is climbing out of his crib, the first day we got home was a nightmare getting him to sleep. Ben ended up standing in his room and letting him climb out again and again and he would keep putting him back in... eventually he got so tired he just wanted to sleep. It seemed to work well because he hasn't really tried to climb out much since then, maybe he thinks Ben will do that again. He is still not back to his normal routine and he doesn't like sleeping in his crib, he cries when its bedtime. So I feel your pain with that... it sure is frustrating!!! I'm sure it will take some time and Sam will get used to it there. We sure had fun seeing all you guys at christmas... wish is could have been longer but maybe now that your in Sacramento we will have more opportunity to see you guys. I would love for Noah, Michael and Sam to know each other well. Well we are so glad you guys made it... enjoy that big beautiful home, you guys deserve it!!

"every ward I have ever loved was once new and unfamiliar"... that is so true! I remember feeling the exact same way when we first moved here. I kept reminding myself that it was just a matter of time, and a matter of extending myself to expedite the process.

I am so happy that you made it to your new home safely and that it feels so luxurious. What a blessing! I can't wait to see pictures. But I understand not wanting to put them up right away. We've been in our new place a week and I still feel it isn't ready to be shared. I want to at least get a few pictures on the walls first. Good luck at church tomorrow! Stick out your hand to anyone who makes eye contact and you'll have a bundle of friends in no time. :)

You live so close to us (relative to where you were before...) we'll be sure to stop by one of these days. We drive right through your town every time we go visit Taylor's family in Palo Alto.

Yay! So glad you finally made it - after such a long, crazy trip! I can't wait to see pictures. It'll all be so great when you're finally settled and the boys get used to their new surroundings. I'm still in awe - you are woman - for taking that trip by yourself! Try to take some time and relax too - you deserve it!

Wow! You have done the hardest part...plus some! I'm so glad you are in your new home and safe and all together. Hopefully the flu bug is gone for good and you can really start to enjoy the new adventure. The hardest part for me is always starting "over" but it is also the most rewarding in the end. I love fresh starts and new opportunities and new adventures. I can't wait to see pictures of your new place!!

I can't wait to see pictures. I love how you word things and can so relate to the excitement and the bittersweetness of a move. I hope church was good. I'm inclined to think it will be great because you will make it so! Good luck--glad you all made it in one piece!

Poor little Sam. I hope he adjusts soon. I am glad you are finally there and getting settled but we are still sad to have you gone. I hope you will be back to visit at some point. (I am especially bummed that I was still out of town when you guys left!)
